if the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do? Psalm 11:3
Will the church in America please wake up? Will the righteous of God please speak the truth. Will the great preachers in our nation flood the gospel onto the radio waves, tv stations, internet, the street corners and everywhere else we can grab the attention of the lost? Will we preach the repentance of sin and the looming threat of death and Hell? Will we stand for Jesus who died all the more firmly in the face a nation who has less and less of a place for Him?
Jesus has always been twisted for the will of the power hungry, and it is no different today. Whether it was the Catholic Church banning the English Bible and trying to control all doctrine, or white Americans twisting Scripture in favor of slavery, or Hitler claiming Jesus was not a Jew this has been going on a long time.
You may say that politicians today are using religion to help earn votes. I would suggest this has been going on a long time. Surely the republican party in America has been guilty of this, but haven’t the democrats been guilty too? From the evangelical Jimmy Carter to the Christian Barak Obama who ran for president while taking a stance where he said he was not for changing the definition of marriage there has been a lot of this on all sides.
As a Christian I am mostly concerned about the state of the church. I am constantly seeing professing Christians make statements about the love of Jesus and then redefining what love is. Jesus is being twisted to conform to a secular culture in America that has lost the foundation of truth in God’s Word.
My problem is not with love. I believe we need to love everybody, and that is a key that will reach our culture for Jesus. My problem is that the foundation for love has been removed and replaced by our culture’s version of love. If you don’t accept things which the Bible calls sin you are a considered a bigot. If you tell people about their need for Jesus and their offense to God in sin, you are considered a judgmental hypocrite. Even other Christians who believe in Hell for some reason don’t think we should be warning people about their eternities.
Jesus has been twisted into a cultural icon, a reminder of right and wrong, but a reminder that is not to be worshiped. Jesus in our culture is like a phone app. A reminder and help to live right, but not the reason and goal of the American life.
Our foundations are crumbling, and if we Christians let our moral foundations crash, then what are we to do? My advice is tell everyone you know about Jesus and even people you are meeting for the first time. The Bible tells us everyone will bow down to Jesus someday, but if we bow down now we will spend eternity in peace and the grace of God instead of suffering and the judgment of God.
Let Christ establish a new foundation in you today.
For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11
